SINGING FACES

    Singing Faces

SingingFaces is an interface that allows participants to interact with an array of videos of people singing.

To build the array, I recorded volunteers singing six notes of a musical scale, trying to be tuned to a reference tone they could hear through the earphones. Each recording was then split into six mini-clips and later arranged as a matrix on the screen. When playing more than one clip at a time, the result is a choir of people singing in harmony.

The users of the interface can play the different clips just by pointing at the area they want to listen to. A Kinect camera reads the position of the hand, controlling the position of a cursor or “active area” on screen to explore different combinations of clips playing, thus different sections of the musical scale.

The project was exhibited at the Digital Connections 2010 Conference at the Time Warner Building in NYC.
